Australia's international public health has been seriously threatened by COVID-19 since the end of 2019. In the course of their recovery, patients may experience a number of sequelae, including exhaustion, dyspnea, headaches, myalgia, psychological symptoms (such as memory loss, sleep disorders, cognitive dysfunction, anxiety, depression, or other affective disorders), as well as a loss of taste and smell. Patients who have COVID-19 sequelae are becoming more prevalent, and there are a large number of patients who have long-term COVID. While the precise mechanism is still unknown and there is no proven treatment for COVID-19 sequelae, some studies imply that the pathogenesis of symptoms in the convalescent phase may be connected to certain states left over from the acute phase (immune system and blood circulatory system).
It is widely acknowledged that TCM has been instrumental in the struggle against COVID-19. For COVID-19, a number of herbal formulas, including Lianhua Qingwe capsules and Xuanfeipaidu granules, have been demonstrated to be effective.
According to Chinese medicine, the symptoms of COVID-19 sequelae can be interpreted as the result of a lung-spleen Qi deficiency or a combined Qi and yin deficiency. Chinese medicine therefore enhances micro-circulation, reduces serum and plasma viscosity, bolsters Qi, feeds Yin, and clears out excess heat and cold from the blood in order to have therapeutic effects. By reducing lung damage, reducing inflammation, and regulating immunity via a variety of targets and pathways, Buzhong Yiqi Decoction, for instance, may be used therapeutically to aid COVID-19 patients in their recovery. Additionally, Shengmaiyin Oral Liquid significantly enhances patients' cardiopulmonary health, and in the convalescent stage, Xiangsha Liujunwan or Dangshen Oral Liquid can significantly enhance patients' sleep disorders and digestive health, respectively. TCM has significant potential for the convalescent treatment of COVID-19, according to the aforementioned findings.
